Mariam’s Story

Joining the program has been the turning point of my life. It has put us in literacy lessons and other classes. I am learning reading and writing besides the other work we do. I earn money at the end of the month and my children are now in school - something I never thought would happen for me.

When I open up my business after graduation, I hope to employ at least three people in my restaurant. I want to change these people’s lives by giving them better pay so that they can sustain themselves and so that my town can grow.

I don’t want to close this story minus thanking the donors or people that bring the literacy classes to us because I couldn’t even write my name but now I do. I get leadership classes that have brought my confidence up making me feel that I can also be a leader and eventually will be in my own business.

Harriet’s Story

Harriet joined our program when she was living below the poverty line selling charcoal informally on the street in attempts to provide for her 8 children. She had a dream of owning a wholesale charcoal company.

After working on our program for two years, Harriet graduated with her dream business in August 2019.

With her earnings from her business, Harriet pays school fees for her own 8 children and for two orphans. She is the sole income earner of her family.

I am forever grateful to this program for the way it changed my life. For me, the program gave my life a new meaning.
